Childhood Cancer Epidemiology Group

Childhood Cancer Research Unit, Stockholm

The Childhood Cancer Epidemiology Group (CCEG) is a research group in the Department of Women's and Children's Health at the Karolinska Institutet. The CCEG administrates and maintains registries that contain data from children with cancer on assignment from research bodies. These organisations and working groups are at national, Nordic and international level and are close and important research partners of the CCEG.

On national level the CCEG work closely together with the working groups SBLG(Swedish Childhood Leukaemia Group), VSTB (Treatment planning group for children with solid tumors), VCTB (Treatment planning group for children with CNS-tumors), SVBRT(Swedish Paediatric Radiotherapists)
and SALUB(Swedish working group for late effects in children after cancer).

On the Nordic level the CCEG cooperates in many matters with the Nordic organisation of paediatric heamatology and oncology.

At an international level there is SIOP (Société Internationale d'Oncologie Pédiatrique or International Society of Paediatric Oncology), the major global organisation concerned with the issues of children and young people who have cancer.

Even if the CCEG administers the registries, add users and checks data centrally, encrypted communication over the Internet allows quality checks to be done elsewhere. The Principal Investigator of the NOPHO AML protocol is a doctor in Århus, Denmark. The technical solution is flexible and allows the AML-study group of Hong Kong to register their patients into the registry in the same manner as the other members of the NOPHO-protocol.
